The Hacking Democracy Hackathon is a 24-hour event organized by Link Puerto Rico and Startup Societies in Engine4 that will engage anyone, from local developers to entrepreneurs, to create applications for Open Data, E-Government Applications, and Applications for Infrastructure.

The hackathon will be open to any person who wishes to participate such as students, experienced developers, and entrepreneurs. The participants will be divided into teams of maximum five people. Participants will have the freedom to choose between these categories: Open Data, E-Government Application, and Applications for Infrastructure. In addition to monetary prizes for each category, sponsors will give specs to contestants and reward them with job offers if they fulfill the sponsor’s requirements.

The Hackathon will run under the following schedule:

Requirements

The project that will be created in the Hackathon should be submitted under the following categories:

1. "Open Data" in the Government - It is a philosophy and practice that seeks that certain types of data are freely available to everyone, without restrictions on copyrights, patents or other control mechanisms.

2. "E-Government" Apps - Consists of the use of information, communication technologies and knowledge in the internal processes of government, as well as in the delivery of the products and services of the State both to citizens and to the industry.

3. Government Infrastructure Applications - Set of technical means, services and facilities necessary for the development of an activity or for a place to be used by any government agency.



El proyecto que se cree en el hackathon debe cualificar dentro de las siguientes categorías:

  1. "Open Data" en el Gobierno - Es una filosofía y práctica que persigue que determinados tipos de datos estén disponibles de forma libre para todo el mundo, sin restricciones de derechos de autor, de patentes o de otros mecanismos de control.
  2. Aplicationes de "E-Government" - Consiste en el uso de las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación y el conocimiento en los procesos internos de gobierno, así como en la entrega de los productos y servicios del Estado tanto a los ciudadanos como a la industria.
